Portfolio of Works
People/Donations
This collection has older work done and completed at life drawing settings, in one morning session. There is a 16 piece donation of portrait type oil pastels at the Lovelace Women’s Hospital on Mongomery. Life drawing is what I first started with in High School with Frank McCulloch , the Highland Art teacher. I found doing people came the easiest for me, and returned to life drawing classes in college and then often in Albuq. i still have over a hundred quick sketches of people. I did not continue with them because I didn’t want to be a portrait artist. Landscapes are the most challenging but get me outside where I am the most inspired.
WHERE I GO
I never paint what I havent seen many times. I go back as often as possible, work on site, try many approaches, fail, try again. These works include the Jemez area of New Mexico and many pond pieces from both Shady Lakes in Albuquerque and a lotus pond from Los Poblanoes where I worked many years ago when it was a private residence (now a beautiful inn and amazing grounds) Some are very recent and some a long time ago, especially the lotus. Shady Lakes was a series I worked on in summers from 2016 to 2021 when the fishing gardens closed. I still continue to work on some that are unsettled to me. I have been going into the Jemez area since I was a teenager. I will never get enough of it.
OUR FLOWERS and STILL LIFES
This collection is another one that is few in number now. I did flowers in watercolors and oils for many years . All flowers were ours and done from life. We have grown flowers for almost 50 years and perhaps their presence has absorbed the compunction to paint them. I also have turned to photographing them through all their seasons and years. I have a few still life’s in here also.
